What accessories to buy for my MacBook Pro?

I'm buying the 13 inch MacBook Pro for college, and I'm wondering what kind of accessories would be really useful.

I definitely want to get some type of carrying case and a cooling pad. Does anyone have any good suggestions?

Are there any other accessories that anyone finds really useful to have?

  1. I got a hardshell case for my macbook pro to protect from scratches and fingerprints. check out the link, they are really nice hardshell cases! i love mine. the hardshell case also has little legs on it so it can angle your laptop…it’s really cool.

  2. I’d get a wireless Magic Mouse. There are dozens of skins and cases on the Apple site and in stores. You can choose a hard-shell skin or a soft one. I have a black Tucano Second Skin case that’s soft but prevents scratching, It comes with a smaller case for cords and such. I really like it. I also have a Fossil messenger bag that’s designed for laptops. It doubles as my school bag.

  3. I second Kelsey’s recommendation for a Magic Mouse. It’s one of the coolest things I have ever seen. You could also get an HD stick to catch some high definition television action on your MBP. For a carrying case, take a look at this laptop brief (‘http://www.briggs-riley.com/category/productDetail.aspx?id=Speedy-Mini-Brief_VB401 ‘) from Briggs & Riley. It’s stylish, compact, and extremely functional for its size with separate sections to keep your laptop, files, and stationary plus peripherals.

  4. I was into getting a cooling pad but after a lot of research I decided it wasn’t necessary or practical for me. I just use a little wedge shaped stand to keep the comp off my lap and at a better angle for typing.

For a case I use a Case Logic soft sleeve which is great for bump and scratch protection but not as tough as a hard shell of course. Fits like a glove too.

Probably my favorite laptop accessory is the Apple Airport Express. You can connect it to your printer and stereo for wireless printing and music which is totally awesome with a laptop. No more stupid wires messing with your mobility. Also you can connect to both of them with a PC (I think) just as long as you have iTunes and Bonjour.

Also, definitely get some sort of backup system (Time Machine, Time Capsule, Air Disk, external disk, etc.) because the last thing you need is to have your disk crash with your term paper due in a day. Remember that a backup system relies on making sure you’re using it so I like mindless, in the background, wireless solutions instead of having to wire up a disk every time you need to backup.
