Do I need adapter to use Macbook Pro 17″ in Europe?

I've been using a Macbook Pro 17" with an adapter in a European outlet that gives off 220V and someone told me I was frying my battery. They told me I needed an adapter to convert the 220V to 120V. Is this true? I am using the 85W Magsafe Power Adapter.

  1. Most laptop power supplies are unversal 110-250V. Look at the writing on the side of it – does it say something like 110-250? If so, you are fine. You would have fried the power supply by now – that takes about two minutes on the wrong voltage.

  2. Unless you bought the mac in Europe, you should buy an outlet adapter. I’m surprised nothing bad has happened yet. To be safe you should consider getting an adapter. they are not to expensive, about 20-30 dollars.
