My Imation Apollo external HDD won't work on my macbook it wont show up on the desktop and the disk utility. I tried connecting it to a laptop that's running windows and it worked fine.
I checked the usb ports in my mac and they're all working properly.

  1. Three things to try….

    1) Try the drive on another computer, rule out if the issue is with the drive or cable itself.

    2) Double-check that the external drive is not under-powered, meaning it needs external power.

    3) Look in Apple System Profiler (under Applications/Utilities), look under USB, and see if the drive hardware is showing; if so, then it’s the drive [mechanism] itself is dead but the bridge board is reading ok. You’ll have to contact the company for warranty service.

  2. try installing the software for the external hard drive from the support website… Then that should work… not too familiar with Macs…

  3. It is obviously a format that Mac does not recognize. Plug it into the Mac and open Disk Utility, from there format it to a format that your Mac supports.
