Why doesn't Walmart sell Apple Macbooks?

It's so weird. I've looked on their website and they sell a few Mac accessories, but absolutely NO Mac computer, desktop or laptop.

Funnier yet, I even asked some of their management, and each one has given me a bit of a different answer. . .so basically, I don't believe any of them knew for sure. Does anyone have any thought as to why I can get HP, Dell, Acer, Gateway, etc from them but not ONE Mac? Much appreciated!

  1. The way Wal-Mart works is to strong-arm manufacturers to cut the price drastically. Apple must have refused to go along with Wal-Mart’s greedy, rip-off tactics. After all, Apple Computer does not need Wal-Mart and does not need its computers being sold at a deep discount.

For example, if the manufacturer wants to maintain a wholesale price of $1,000, Wal-Mart will demand a price of $750, even if it below cost to the manufacturer. Wal-Mart has driven a number of US business out of business in this manner, and has severely crippled others, such as Rubbermaid, resulting in the loss of many US manufacturing jobs.

In many ways, Wal-Mart is very bad for the US economy, and is more an outlet for cheap Chinese crap than anything else.

I refuse to shop at Wal-Mart.

  2. wal mart sells stuff that the majority of people use, Apple computers are not used by the majority, Microsoft still commands like 88% of the market. the way Walmart has cheap prices, is that they buy in vast quantities to drive down prices, The lack of demand for Apple products does not justify its purchase, which goes against Walmarts business Model to sell cheap crap

  3. Apple only licenses computers to their stores and Best Buy. Walmart doesn’t have the ability to sell them.

  4. Macs are probably too expensive too be sold at Wal-Mart. They often cost twice as much as a pc and they can discount those since everyone wants one and they aren’t as good as Macs. There’s no way to really discount a computer that does everything you want (almost) and hardly gets any viruses. Of course, this is just a theory and my own opinion, but it would be my best guess.

  5. Wal-Mart requires lots of things from their vendors. And Apple requires lots of things from their retailers. Namely deep price cuts. Apple isn’t and doesn’t need to do that. It would undermine their other retail outlets including their own Apple Stores.

They also want the product sold by people that can help the user and Wal-Mart isn’t going to be able to do that.

  6. Apple only sells to licenced stores and Best buy has an exclusive licenced to sell macs 9other than Apple’s own store) brick and morter wise. Don’t believe the know nothings who say walmart destroys companies. Besides, would you rather sell 5,000 units at a 50% profit, or sell 50,000 units at a 25% profit.
