I am interested in buying a macbook pro, but I do not want to pay the steep price for a new one off of apple, or use ebay. Does anyone know of a place to purchase them cheaply?

if you have any friends that work in any electronics stores like best buy or fry’s you can ask them for a discount but a lot of the time if you go to the store and you can ask them if theyre selling any of there floor models. theyre substantially cheaper and very well maintained.
Well since you mentioned place, i guess you can buy macbook pro from Craigslist and meet someone to buy used macbook. Or you can order cheap mac from CowBoom.com
Try Amazon or Macmall not relatively cheap as you want but you save a little.
